Miguel Heredia, born a Sartenejeño, is the youngest of three siblings. His early passion for the sea led him to swim and fish, inspired by family members who were fishermen. He attended Sarteneja La Inmaculada R.C. School and Cornerstone Christian Academy. In 2010, at age 16, Miguel joined the fishing industry and fell in love with the underwater world. In 2012, he earned an associate degree in Biology with Natural Resource Management from Centro Escolar Mexico Junior College (CEMJC). He then joined Wildtracks Belize, contributing to rescue, tracking, and outreach efforts. In 2018, Miguel became a marine park ranger at Hol Chan Marine Reserve, gaining skills in vessel navigation, patrols, conch surveys, and buoy demarcation. In early 2022, he transitioned to a forest park ranger position at the Corozal Sustainable Future Initiative (CSFI), where he enforced green legislation, identified bird species, conducted camera trap surveillance, and collected wildlife data. In June 2022, Miguel joined SACD as a Marine Park Ranger, quickly becoming a key member of the enforcement and surveillance team protecting Corozal Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. By 2023, his dedication, skills, and self-motivation earned him a promotion to Biodiversity Officer. Miguel is a fantastic team player with a wealth of knowledge, driving his enthusiasm for conservation. He is passionate about ensuring future generations can appreciate the wonders of nature and its diverse species.
