To integrate efforts into the national Fisher’s Folk Month in Belize, SACD started the Sarteneja Fisher Fair in 2017. Successfully running for three years now, the fair celebrates fishermen in Sarteneja and provides a platform for them to showcase their work and products. A full day of engaging activities is available for both youth and adults including fishing tournaments, kayak races, and more.
The event creates an opportunity for SACD to increase public awareness on environmental issues in CBWS and promote sustainable alternatives options for fishermen. The fair is celebrated every year between the month of May (last week) -June (1st Week). This event attracts people from around Belize and abroad, with over 300+ participants attending the event each year.
