What is SACD?

The Sarteneja Alliance for Conservation and Development (SACD) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that promotes the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources for the benefit of present and future generations. SACD is located in Sarteneja, a traditional fishing village situated in the Corozal District, in the north east of Belize, and is the co-management partner for the Corozal Bay Wildlife Sanctuary (CBWS) in partnership with the Forestry Department.

What does SACD do?

SACD undertakes different objectives within its two main programme areas – the Natural Resource Management programme (subdivided into the Research and Monitoring and Surveillance and Enforcement sub-programmes) and the Education, Engagement, and Outreach programme. This can range from aquatic mammal necropsies to school visits and activity days for young people in the communities. This is made possible by our small team of staff with a wide range of skills being able to cover many different specialties.

All of the work undertaken by SACD is underpinned by our Vision, Mission, and Goal. These statements best reflect the belief’s of our staff and board members and continue to influence the growth and development of the organization, and our relationships with the different stakeholder communities of CBWS.
