Community Engagement & Outreach
The goal of the Education and Outreach Program is to promote good stewardship of the natural resources of Corozal Bay Wildlife Sanctuary (CBWS) within stakeholder communities and to achieve national recognition for CBWS as an ecologically significant area. Through this program, SACD aims to engage and educate stakeholders on the importance of conservation and the impact they can make. Education is crucial for fostering behavioral and attitudinal changes within the community. By explaining not only how stakeholders can make a difference but also why it matters, SACD strives to inspire a sense of responsibility and commitment to conservation. Effective education and outreach activities are essential for raising awareness and encouraging participation in the successful management of CBWS.
SACD places a strong emphasis on educating and training youth, the next generation of CBWS resource users and future community leaders. Efforts are concentrated on engaging schools in key stakeholder communities: Sarteneja, Chunox, Copper Bank, Corozal Town, and Consejo. Through hands-on activities and unique learning experiences, youth develop a meaningful connection to nature and gain a deeper appreciation for the value of CBWS. Currently, SACD continues to target key community sectors to raise awareness for CBWS. By utilizing a combination of school presentations, community events, training sessions, info booths, and social media platforms, SACD successfully engages the diverse community surrounding CBWS, enhancing their understanding of the importance of Corozal Bay and fostering a culture of conservation.
