Ruby Arrivillaga

CBWS Head Ranger

Mr. Ruby Arrivillaga, a resident of Sarteneja Village, has transitioned from a life at sea as a fisherman to a vigilant guardian of the marine environment. In 2015, he made an important decision to join the Surveillance and Enforcement Program of SACD, demonstrating his commitment to safeguarding the environmental treasures of Belize. Before embracing his role as a park ranger of the Corozal Bay Wildlife Sanctuary (CBWS), Ruby spent a significant portion of his life, around twelve years, as a skilled fisherman. However, driven by a desire to contribute positively to the environment, he turned his career and earned certification as a tour guide. Ruby’s journey took another transformative turn when he decided to pursue education at Kaina Online High School. In 2023, he proudly graduated, adding academic achievements to his career. His personal goal is clear: to educate users of the CBWS on the critical importance of sustainable fishing, wildlife, and environmental preservation for the benefit of all. Ruby’s enthusiasm for his work is evident in his daily efforts to raise awareness about the delicate balance that sustains the Corozal Bay ecosystem. His joy is palpable when he gets to witness the astounding diversity of marine and wildlife that call Belize home. Ruby, a former fisherman turned guardian is an inspiring example of how personal growth can be harnessed for the greater good of his people and its natural tradition.
