Conservation Starts With Community
The goal of the Education and Outreach Program is to promote good stewardship of the natural resources of Corozal Bay Wildlife Sanctuary (CBWS) within stakeholder communities and to achieve national recognition for CBWS as an ecologically significant area.
Through education, outreach and meaningful engagement, SACD works to help communities understand the importance of Corozal Bay and the role they can play in protecting it.

01 • EDUCATION
Educating for Stewardship
Through this program, SACD aims to engage and educate stakeholders on the importance of conservation and the impact they can make.
Education is crucial for fostering behavioral and attitudinal changes within the community. By explaining not only how stakeholders can make a difference but also why it matters, SACD strives to inspire a sense of responsibility and commitment to conservation.

🌎
Protect Our Future

Community & Stakeholder Engagement
Conservation is strongest when the people who depend on and know these places are part of the conversation.
SACD works closely with communities, local organizations and resource users to understand local needs, incorporate traditional knowledge and strengthen participation in the management and conservation of natural resources.
🤝
Corozal Bay Advisory Committee
Our Corozal Bay Advisory Committee (CBAC) provides an important link between SACD and the communities and stakeholders connected to Corozal Bay. Through the committee, we seek local knowledge, advice and perspectives to help guide our work and identify actions that respond to the needs and priorities of stakeholder communities.
The CBAC helps strengthen communication, participation and collaboration in the management and conservation of Corozal Bay.
🏠
Homestays & Traditional Fishers
We work with local homestays and traditional fishing families to create opportunities for visitors to experience Northern Belize through the people who know it best.
These partnerships help visitors learn about local livelihoods, fishing traditions, food, culture and everyday life while creating opportunities for community members to benefit from sustainable tourism.
🛶
Tour Guide Association
We collaborate with the local Tour Guide Association to strengthen opportunities for trained local guides to participate in tourism and share their knowledge of Northern Belize.
Local guides bring valuable knowledge of the area’s wildlife, ecosystems, history and communities, helping create experiences that are informative, authentic and connected to place.
Local Knowledge. Local Participation. Shared Stewardship.
Our approach recognizes that communities are not simply beneficiaries of conservation—they are important partners in understanding, managing and protecting the natural resources on which people and ecosystems depend.

Building a Culture of Conservation
Together, communities can strengthen their understanding of Corozal Bay and help ensure its natural resources are valued, protected and conserved for generations to come.
Learn. Engage. Steward. Conserve.
