6th Annual Manatee Survey in Corozal Bay!

17198926_10210784734867042_697118501_nDid you know that Corozal Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and the adjacent seascape has more than 60 manatees!

CBWS was established for the protection of the endangered Antillean manatee – one of SACD’s conservation targets.

Yesterday morning, as part of the ongoing manatee monitoring activities, SACD and Wildtracks carried out an aerial survey for manatees and other large “megafauna” (sharks, dolphins and turtles) of Corozal Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve (the northern portion of the Northern Belize Coastal Complex).

The aerial surveys are used to gather information on the population abundance and distribution of manatee in the protected areas. This is the 6th year SACD and Wildtracks have completed the surveys!
